This hands-on craft invites participants to explore the functional beauty of rope work while awakening a connection to outdoor sport and survival skills. Knot-tying is both meditative and tactile, requiring a balance of focused technique, muscle memory through repetition, and creative experimentation with form.

Participants will begin by learning essential sport and survival knots and their real-world applications in sailing, climbing, camping, and other outdoor practices. From there, the group will explore how to combine these knots artistically, alongside beads and charms, to create a unique set of bag charms. Through experimenting with color, rope thickness, and layered textures, participants will discover how the same knots can transform across different materials.

Participants are encouraged to experiment freely, practicing the knots that resonate most with them. The process naturally invites loose loops, unexpected twists, and unplanned color pairings, embracing imperfection and leading to one-of-a-kind designs.

Lilyan Minicozzi (she/her) is an industrial designer, artist, and maker working at the intersection of outdoor culture, material storytelling, and circular design. Deeply inspired by natural landscapes, her practice is shaped by time spent hiking, climbing, skiing, and wandering; experiences that foster a deep curiosity for and respect toward the environments that form us.

She works primarily with used and discarded materials, approaching them as carriers of memory rather than waste. Found Sounds: Intro To Ableton Live

Spend an evening creating a beat using everyday objects. This hands-on workshop introduces participants to music production using Ableton Live, exploring how found sounds can become the foundation of an instrumental track.

We’ll begin by collecting and recording live sounds from nearby objects, then learn how to sequence a basic drum pattern using those recordings. Along the way, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of rhythm. Once the beat’s foundation is in place, we’ll layer instruments, samples, and melodies using Ableton’s native sounds and samples provided by Dani.

This class is designed as an introduction for those curious about music production, with a focus on the very basics of both rhythm and Ableton Live.

Dani Murcia (she/they) is a NYC-based artist, musician, and educator whose work blends performance, storytelling, and community care. They perform worldwide as a solo artist and bandmate, and teach youth with organizations like The Lower Eastside Girls Club, We Make Noise, and Building Beats, empowering young people through music production, songwriting, and performance.

Originally from Miami, Murcia studied at Berklee College of Music and co-founded the NYC collective Home Carried and the global women-run collective Her Songs. They are also a member of Samora Pinderhughes’ band, performing at venues like MoMA, Carnegie Hall, and Blue Note NYC. Their latest album, weight of the world, is out now.

Murcia’s work is driven by a belief in music as a powerful vehicle for healing, dialogue, and community building.

This intimate workshop guides you through assembling, personalizing, and mapping your own touch-capacitive MIDI controller — a sculptural instrument that responds to your gestures. Together, we’ll explore sound, touch, and technology as extensions of self, emotion, and story.

Each student will receive a custom circuit hand-soldered by the artist and be led through designing the instrument’s tactile surface (its “keys”) and mapping it into Ableton Live or the software of your choice. We will approach instrument-making as both art and tool — something tactile, expressive, and uniquely your own.

You’ll leave with:

A fully functional and customizable, one-of-a-kind MIDI-capable sonic object, powered by a Teensy 4.1 microcontroller

A personalized tactile surface, designed as an artwork and embedded with meaningful textures or objects

Learn the basics of leather working, hardware application, and hand stitching in this beginner friendly course. We will explore the application of functional and decorative elements in the construction of these boot shafts and how the two can interact in their design.

Sip x Dye

As we move into winter, the abundance of autumn must be stored, transformed, or released to make space for what’s next. In this workshop, participants will explore the fundamentals of bundle dyeing using discarded flora from local florists and wine remnants from Playground Wines—materials otherwise destined for waste.

We’ll experiment with natural color extraction and use pH modifiers to reveal a spectrum of tones as they bond to fabric. This process-centered session offers a sustainable, accessible introduction to natural dyes, with all materials provided for hands-on exploration. Each student will receive cotton fabric to work with and take home.

This workshop is open to everyone—child-friendly, beginner-friendly, and ideal for anyone interested in integrating healthier, low-impact materials into their creative practice. No science background required.

Tension and Slack is a weaving workshop facilitated by art therapist, Christopher Blay.
